Organized by Instituto de Conservación de Ballenas (Argentina) and sponsored by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).

The workshop had participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Mexico. The objective was to unify criteria and efforts done on research and conservation of this species in the region. Conservation priorities for southern right whales of South America were analyzed and researchers settled the bases to share information obtained in the different research areas.
